1.) How about a brief introduction of yourself?
Hello, hello. My name is Tessa; orange is my favorite color; I adore The Daily Show, Friends, the GazettE and Great Danes; I’m in my first year of college and I always find introductions awkward so I usually open with a joke *insert wittiness here*.
2.) And what got you into fanfiction to begin with?
Well, like most people who write fanfic, anime is what first drew me into this ‘underground’ writing scene. I had always been writing stories in my head, whether it be using characters I saw on TV or from my imagination, and when I realized that there was a place where everyone sort of congregated to do just that and share, I was ecstatic, haha. I started out at FF.net (I think it’s almost a rite of passage to start out there lol) and then discovered LJ accordingly.
3.) What kind of fanfiction do you like to write?
I enjoy all genres as long as I can create palpable emotions in the story. Drama, romance and angst seem to be my calling cards, but lately I’ve been dabbling in fluff, crack and humor. ^^
4.) Do you tend to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom whore?
Haha! I’ve never heard the term “fandom whore” before – I like it :P
In regards to GazettE fanfiction, it seems that my go-to is Aoi/Uruha, but I’m comfortable with all pairings. I think each one has a different sort of aura and atmosphere to offer.
5.) What is your most popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so?
Violet Pulse seems to be my most popular fic (at least, it’s the one that has the most comments, haha). As to why people like it… Perhaps because it has a little bit of everything – age progression, romance, darker themes, childhood friends finding each other later in life, an alternate band history and a happy ending. Of course, I can’t speak for those people who reviewed :D
6.) Forget other people...what is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of?
Oh jeez. Well, These Simple Breaths is the first completed chaptered story I’ve written, so it has a special place in my heart. And now that I think about it, I also love Sonnet in Reverse too. But really, each piece I’ve written has something about it that made me write it in the first place and made me desire to share it with others <3
7.) Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing?
It depends. I always find that if you write when you’re inspired, it’s almost too easy. But, if you try and force the words out to meet a deadline or just to post another chapter, it’s the most difficult thing in the world. That’s why if I run out of inspiration for an idea, I stop writing it and only return to it when I can’t hold back the words.
8.) Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character.
Aoi/Uruha: I wouldn’t go so far to say they’re my OTP because honestly I can see them with other people too, but there is something about these two that just won’t leave my overactive imagination. It’s something sweet, tender, agonizing, heartbreaking, beautiful. It seems like they can be molded into almost anything: a warm romance, a secret liaison, a yearning… In a way, they’re opposites that seem like they could meld into each other perfectly and maybe that’s why we try and keep them together <3
9.) Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches that you're sick of?
Falling in love in a day (ie: lack of build-up). High school. Vampires. Uruha as the perpetual “bottom” of a relationship (which includes behavior outside of sex). Ruki as a bitchy diva.
10.) Are you guilty of any of these? Or have you committed other crimes?
Hmm, I don’t think so – but I’m sure I’ve committed others somewhere ^^;
11.) What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you continue to like/participate in it?
Naruto – I was an avid KakaSaku fan. I rarely (read: never) dabble in that fandom anymore.
12.) Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them that you love to write.
- Aoi/Uruha – aforementioned above :)
- Reita/Uruha – I adore their long history and
bromancefriendship - Aoi/Ruki – My newest pairing to write. I was spurred on by some amazing writing from a few here on LJ. I don’t really know what draws me to them, but it’s certainly fun :D
13.) What would you call your writing "style"?
I’d like to say my writing has a poetic feel to it. I love little details and the occasional metaphor so I suppose it’s only natural for the style to come out that way.
14.) Do you read other people's fanfics? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
Oh yes, yes, yes. I’m a bookworm in real life so I’m no different with fanfiction. I never did a fic!rec or an author!rec before, but currently I’m following the works of:
ronnieshade
gingersteps
tingedwords
- *etc, etc
*Just comment asking for a full list of my recs because there’s seriously so many awesome authors out there that I haven’t mentioned (or just take a look in my memories).
15.) Name one thing you'd LOVE to write but haven't yet.
Hmm, that's a hard question. Maybe a massive and epic zombie AU... 8D I also have two major ideas I haven’t begun writing yet, but I won’t say anything here about them – it’s a surprise :3
16.) Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have a really bloated ego?
I have no problem with criticism. I realize that everyone has different tastes and as long as it’s not outright flaming, I don’t mind it. I want to encourage my readers to give my pieces constructive criticism – it truly helps.
17.) When you write is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room?
I pretty much always have a soundtrack playing from my Youtube favorites (including my guilty pleasure, Kesha). Music is an inspiration.
18.) What inspires you?
Almost anything. Little moments in life. A lyric. Random passing thoughts. WTF dreams. Colors.
19.) Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer?
Writing has always been a passion of mine and I’ve learned that fanfiction, while sometimes slandered by some of the authors I’ve read from, truly helps hone one’s abilities. It’s a release, it’s an escape, it’s a community and it’s fun. And I’ll continue writing such stories as long as it keeps bringing a smile to my face and joy in my heart <3
